Using Google to identify on-page SEO gaps

The process of SEO implementation is rather simple:
  • Begin with a clean-coded website.
  • Build relevant product pages in line with your overall content strategy.
  • Nurture the pages with internal and external links.
  • Work on achieving rankings for the your focused keywords via word stemming (ranking for multiple related keywords).
  • Use word stemming to add more long-tail keywords to the mix in a disciplined manner.
In SEO implementation, it’s about managing various facets of the process to accomplish the right balance of activities for your organic search campaign. The key is to manage the rise of the keywords you’re concentrating on and if they overlap,  they’re adding more internal link weight to redistribute throughout your site in addition to driving additional traffic be ranking higher.
In addition to content creation, link building is a critical part of an on-page and off-page seo activity. For linking, there are three ways to rank, through internal links, internal links and external links or a combination of both. Disciplined optimization involves selecting a fixed number of modifiers, identifying how your site works with respect to them, create appropriate content to create continuity from your existing site and then embarking on a series of link building action with the right protocols.
Here’s the problem: As you begin the process or attempt to identify gaps, it’s key to have some tools that help you find those areas where you can make improvements. Listed below are 4 simple Google commands that will help you do exactly that.
The 4 tools below will give you an insight of how Google assesses your on-page content and off-page credibility. They’re mostly for on-page and that’s a good thing because that’s a component that you can control.
Open a Google search and then type in the following search command to find out where your site ranks with respect to the attributes defined by the command. Type in the search command followed by a colon, then a space and the keyword you want to rank for.
1. allintitle: keyword(s)
This Google syntax searches the title of webpages and lists the websites which contain the keyword(s) in the title.
2. allinanchor: keyword(s)
This Google syntax searches the anchor text of web pages and lists the websites that have the strongest inbound links from the specified keyword(s).
3. allintext: keyword(s)
This Google syntax searches the body text and lists the websites that have the strongest on-page relevance.
4. allinurl: keyword(s)
This Google syntax restricts SERPs results to the keywords found in website urls and lists which domains contain the keyword(s) in their urls.
The above commands give you a quick look into how your site fares with respect to the competition. View the first two pages of results, see what your competitors are using in their titles, link anchors, their website texts and urls. Then begin work on your on-page optimization to:
  • Create content that has relevance.
  • Insert keywords within title, meta descriptions, h1 tags, within content text (keyword density of 2-3%), at the bottom.
  • Identify the pages on your website that have high PR and link to the page you’ve just built/optimized using the keywords in play as the anchor text.
Just do that for now. I’ll have another post where we’ll discuss content silos and sculpting of links to drive page cred internally which in turn will lead to higher ranking in SERPs. It’s key to understand that you have more control over your own site and can manage its SEO activities than managing the process for external links to you. Good luck!

Natural On Page SEO:

Your Search Phrases should be emphasized in a natural way for both the visitor and the search engine spider. Do not "KeyWord Stuff" your web page, by repeating the search phrase over and over again in your webpage. This will often resuly in a Search Engine "Penalty" and move your sites ranking Lower in the results.
Unethical/Unsavory On Page Techniques:

There are several different techniques known as "black hat" or "unethical" On Page Techniques. Some SEO companies engage in these type of activities and should be avoided. Sooner or later the search engines will catch up to these unethical techniques and the likely result will be your site being demoted or banned from the search engines. We recommend the following unethical seo techniques should not be used.
Negative ON Page SEO Techniques Include:
  • Avoid Using "hidden" or invisible text on your page for the purpose of higher search engine placement. For example the words/text for search phrase "Widget" in the html, the font color has been set to White. The background of the page is also white. Therefore the textual content is actually there, however the words are "hidden" from the surfer. This is frowned upon by search engines and frequently results in your site being penalized.
  • Avoid Using Negative <div> htmltags. Div tags, Div tags are division tags. Unscrupulous seo services may insert them into your page with negative x/y coordinates to place content outside of the visible page for the surfer, but the text itself is in the html page. The search engine finds the keywords in the text, yet the surfer does not see it. Again a technique to be avoided and not recommended under any circumstances.
  • Avoid Cloaking or Sneaky Redirects. Cloaking refers to serving up 2 different types of content based on the visitor who is visiting. Is the visitor a regular websurfer, serve up this page. Is the visitor a search engine spider? Serve up this OTHER page specificly for the search engine spider. The other page being served up is typically garbled textual content with no meaning to a human, and is stuffed with various keywords and search phrases. Again this technique is not recommended and will likely get your site penalized or banned from search engines.
  • Avoid duplicate content. Duplicate content means you create one web site, with content on topic a, and then repeat the content over and over again on multiple websites. In theory you could create one website, achieve high ranking on it, and then clog up the search engines with the same content duplicated on multiple domains. Again this is not recommended and should be avoided.

In Summary "On Page" SEO is important however it has lost some importance over the years do to the ever expanding growth of the internet and complexity in search engine technology.

Achieving top ranking is a daunting task, of course we recommend you consult with one of our seo consultants to evaluate your website and provide a professional suite of SEO Services.

Onpage Optimization Methods Consists Of –

Keywords – Here it means placement of keywords in the web copy and NOT selection of keywords. Keyword selection is done prior to writing content for web page and NOT as an afterthough ( although this is often the case ). Keywords must be placed in such a manner that both search spiders and visitors should be satisfied.
Title: In the title tag, the target keyword should appear at least once. (different title for each page). The title should entice the visitor to click to your site.
Meta Tags: Meta description tag – This tag summarizes the purpose of web page and like title tag, must include keywords.
The title and description should be appealing not only to the search engines, but to visitors as well. Search engines are not going to buy your products and services. Humans will.
Meta keywords tag – List of keywords seperated by comma is what goes into meta keywords list. (different keywords for each page).
Alt attribute: Using ALT attribute on images is good seo practice. “A picture is worth a thousand words” is not true in case of search engines, but ALT attribute is worth it. Don’t cram all the keywords in one ALT attribute. One or two keywords is sufficient.
Anchor Text: Internal links must be optimized with targetted Keywords.
HTML Site Map: HTML sitemap consists of links to all the pages of the website. This is useful in case of large website as visitor can quickly glance through all the pages to find the desired information.

Defenition:
"On Page" SEO simply refers to the text and content on your web site pages. Basically editing your page and content so the Search Engine can find your webpage when a surfer is searching for your web sites particular topic.

History:
On Page Search Engine Optimization has been around the longest, since the begining of search engines. Search engines used simpler less sophisticated technology a few years ago, and the world wide web was alot smaller. At the time "ON Page" SEO Worked years ago, and it was basically an easy comparison. As the World Wide Web grew larger and larger it became more difficult for search engines to differentiate between your site and other sites. A search on "Autos" may return 100 million + pages that have the word "Auto" on it. So Off Page SEO began to take off as the world wide web and search engines grew in complexitiy.

On Page Elements:
On Page Elements refer to the html tags within the page. They include Heading Tags (<H1>), Title Tags, Bold Tags, Italic tags on your web page. Below is an example of phrase "SEO Company" used in a Heading (<h1>) and Bold (<b>) Example:

SEO Company

SEO Company
SEO Company

Notice the difference?
In the HTML Source, The search phrase "SEO Company" Was placed between <h1> tags.

<H1>SEO Company</H1> HTML Tags

In the second version, It was placed between bold tags.

<b>SEO Company</b> HTML tags.
In the third version, it was placed between emphasize tags.

<em>SEO Company</em> HTML tags.
